This project combined research, writing, and visual design to create a poster for a fictional architecture lecture series centered on Michael Graves. After studying his work and design, I developed a written explanation of how the research informed my creative direction and design choices.

I then designed two poster variations in Adobe Illustrator, experimenting with layout, color, and typography to capture the spirit of Graves’ style while maintaining clarity and visual impact.

In the later years of Michael Graves’ career, most of his work was based in New Jersey, with several of his projects a drive away from my hometown. I decided to focus on his work. After doing more research, I found his designs extremely fascinating, from Disney Headquarters, NCAA Headquarters, Denver Public Library, to other global projects. A specific project that should be recognized for its beauty in shape and color is El Gouna Golf Club and Villas, in Egypt. Finished in 2002, the villas are made to highlight an outdoor living style and the serene landscape of Egypt. The structure featured in this poster represents the unique form and shape of the villas, with circular windows, dome roofing, and geometric prism-like structures. The color palette mimics the coloring of the architecture as well as Egypt’s desert-like climate.
